David Brooks, Pastor
David has served as pastor of Edenton Baptist Church since June 1, 2007. A native of Florida, he is a graduate of Samford University (B.A.) and Duke University Divinity School (M.Div.). David considers his role as pastor of EBC to be a true privilege. He enjoys preaching, teaching, and caring for people. David is married to Laurie who teaches English at John A. Holmes High School in Edenton. David and Laurie have a daughter, Caroline, and a son, Jacob. David loves his family, fishing, the Duke Blue Devils, and all things Disney.
Patrick Cardwell, Associate Pastor
Patrick has served as associate pastor at Edenton Baptist since August 14, 2016. A North Carolinian from birth, he has a tremendous love for the Old North State, but has also served churches in Connecticut and Texas. Patrick is a 2013 graduate of Appalachian State (B.A. Religious Studies) and a 2016 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Divinity (M.Div.). He is excited about working with youth and children, and has a special passion for providing educational opportunities and pastoral care. When Patrick isn't at the church, you can find him pulling for the Green Bay Packers, relaxing outdoors with a good book, or enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation.
Michael Morgan, Director of Music
Michael joined EBC’s staff in October 2015. A native of Shawboro, NC, he attended College of the Albemarle and Campbell University, studying sacred music with an emphasis in organ under a number of accomplished professors and musicians. Prior to coming to Edenton, Michael served as Director of Music Ministries and Organist for more than twelve years at First Presbyterian Church of Washington. He has played the organ since he was sixteen, and believes that “music is the universal language that touches all, regardless of race, creed, or color.” He has two children, Macy Wade and Michael.
Jackie Copeland, Organist/Assistant Music Director
Jackie has served at Edenton Baptist Church since the spring of 2013. She grew up in Edenton and is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill (Bachelor of Music) and East Carolina University (Masters in Sacred Music/Organ). She also fullfilled N.C. licensure requirements in Music Education at ECU. Jackie has been the accompanist for the Albemarle Chorale since 2000 and has taught elementary school music since 1994. Jackie lives in the Ryland community of Chowan county with her husband, Jeff Copeland, a farmer and retired livestock agent. They have a son, Sam and a daughter, Callie. Jackie loves gardening, walking, visiting waterfront places and singing.
Janet Skinner, Church Administrator
Janet began working at Edenton Baptist Church as an Office Assistant in 1998. In 2011 she was promoted to Office Administrator, and in 2012 to Church Administrator. Born and raised in Edenton, Janet is a fourth generation member of EBC. She is a graduate of Chowan University and Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). Janet is the mother of three grown daughters, who are her greatest joy. She loves movies, gardening, music, her cats, and spending time with her family—especially her precious grandson.
Sherry Dowd, Preschool Coordinator
Sherry has served as Preschool Coordinator for Edenton Baptist Church since September 29, 1989. Born and raised in Chowan County, Sherry grew up in the church. She is married to Mike Dowd who is Purchasing Agent for Carolina Classic Boats. Together, they are the parents of four sons. Her greatest joy is working with children of all ages from birth to youth, believing that children are our future. Sherry seeks to nurture our preschoolers in the way of the Lord, guided by the words of Jesus: “Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it” (Mark 10:14-15).
Lorraine Bass, Financial Secretary
Lorraine Bass became Financial Secretary of Edenton Baptist Church in July 2015. Her childhood home was in Bertie County and she has been a long-time resident of Chowan County. Lorraine is married to Sherwood Bass and has two daughters, one son, two sons-in-law and six grandchildren, all living in Chowan County.
